Due to a lack of specific information on places to hunt, fish, camp, eat, drink, visit etc. a couple of Rhea County Residents decided to put together this free Forum as a combined information site for Rhea County Information ON EVERYTHING. All this information can be found elsewhere but much of the specific local information on other sites is either incorrect or missing pertinent information and requires searching for specific things, places, and establishments. The goal is to have all of them in one place. HERE. People from out of town ask questions on other websites and either the information is incorrect or outdated. We will have the correct information and if someone asks a question we do not have the answer to we will find out and post it.
Rhea County and especially Dayton, TN, the County Seat, is growing and growing rapidly. Businesses are improving, tourist locations are improving, and you would be hard pressed to find a better freshwater fishing location anywhere else in the United States. In June 2018, Chickamauga Lake in Dayton was voted the number two best Bass Fishing Lake in the Nation and Best Bass Lake in the Southeast in Bassmaster's Top 100 Bass Lakes in the Nation and there are plenty of places to fish where no boat is needed. The surrounding Mountains are beautiful and there are plenty of photo opportunities for both nature and landscape photography, or any photography for that matter. For motorcyclists there are at least 18 routes through the mountains at various levels of motorcycling expertise that begin in Rhea County, and the route maps are available locally free of charge. The hiking on either short routes or for more advanced hikers cannot be beat.
Rhea and surrounding Counties has free camping as well as paid campgrounds. The Campgrounds are not well represented nationally in reviews. Several online reviews of some of the free campgrounds are entirely wrong and people ask questions about camping on the RV Forums and do not get straight answers. There is free camping in some beautiful areas.
We have swimming in the rivers and Creeks at certain locations as well as beaches in nearby areas. Yes, we are in a Mountainous area, but we do have beaches WITH SAND. There are places to BBQ or just Cookout or have a picnic all over, including roadside Picnic areas that are off the main highways.
There is a lot to do and a lot to know. People coming to visit should have to go to one location for all information. If they have a question we will get it answered.
Check back as we will be updating the Forum regularly and adding new information daily.
